'If the only thing people learned was not to be afraid of their experience, that alone would change the world.'
Sydney Banks - Philosopher and Author
At Carleton High School we believe the wellbeing of all stakeholders is a priority. We will endeavour to respond to an ever changing picture of physical and mental wellbeing.
The core values of the Pontefract Academies Trust places achievement of students first. However, if students are to achieve, we need happy, healthy students and staff. Wellbeing covers both physical and mental health and can be described as feeling good about oneself and functioning well. It comprises an individual’s experience of their life and a comparison of life circumstances with norms and values. The wellbeing and success are inextricably linked, we aim to balance support for all students so they can be the best they can be.
Our aim is to create a culture of wellbeing that is non-judgmental and where it is ok to talk about how we feel. It is important to be able to identify the early signs and symptoms of mental illness and signpost and support accordingly. We will promote positive lifestyles across our school. Our rich and diverse curriculum and enrichment offer will teach children and young people how to develop their character and build resilience, increase confidence and foster independence in order to lead mentally and physically healthy lives. We will work with our students to understand the most relevant areas affecting someone’s wellbeing. We offer a comprehensive staff training and development programme drawing on expertise already held within the school and building a team of wellbeing champions. Training and wellbeing champions will be available to all staff at the school to both empower them to support students and colleagues and feel supported as a body of staff.
