In an inspiring display of community spirit, Carleton in the Community students have raised funds to provide a life-saving defibrillator for Pontefract Town Centre. Carleton in the Community are a student-led group, passionate about supporting and giving back to our local community. Their projects tackle a wide range of issues, from social wellbeing to environmental change, and this recent fundraiser is a great example of their commitment to support the most vulnerable members of society.

A visit from Pontefract Civic Society

Last week, the students involved in the fundraiser had the opportunity to meet with the Vice Chair of the Pontefract Civic Society, who visited the school to express his gratitude. During the visit, he demonstrated how the device works, showing students first-hand how it can be used in emergency situations to save lives.

The Vice Chair praised the students’ support, saying “We are incredibly grateful for the students’ contribution towards this life-saving device, helping to fill a vital gap in our community. Since being installed last October, the defibrillator has been accessed 25 times, showing the need for them in our town.”

According to the British Heart Foundation, every minute without CPR and a defibrillator reduces the chance of survival by up to 10%. Having quick access to a defibrillator can make all the difference in an emergency situation.

Thank you to Carleton High School and Pontefract Civic Society

This installation is a critical step in addressing the need for more accessible life-saving equipment in public spaces.

A huge thank you goes out to Carleton High School and Pontefract Civic Society, their dedication and support are helping to make a lasting impact to the lives of those who live in Pontefract. Together, we can build a stronger, safer community.
