Pontefract Academies Trust has been embracing Children’s Mental Health Week and encouraging all their students to find activities that help them feel good about themselves whether that be art, drama, exercise or music.

The schools will be following the Place2Be’s theme of ‘Dress to Express’ this week and all students and staff will be taking part. Students are encouraged to wear their favourite colours or even sports strip to help share their feelings and thoughts.
Larks Hill Junior and Infant school have been enjoying mindfulness drawing as part of their school day and Carleton High School have been hosting group sessions to discuss how they feel and how important it is to talk.

Carleton Park Junior & Infant School have set challenges from their staff to help the children to get outside and explore, find different things locally and get creative. They are giving the children the chance to win house points for participating.

Joe Ayre, Headteacher at Carleton Junior school, which is part of Pontefract Academies Trust said: “Mental health is so important and it’s great to see all the children embracing this very important week. We’re constantly exploring new ways to engage with our students during this difficult time and I’m incredibly proud of everyone for their dedication and hard work.”
