Staff including teachers, lunchtime supervisors and housekeepers across the eight schools in Pontefract Academies Trust have each endured at least 92 seconds of ice cold water on their feet to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease (MNDA) by taking part in the Ice Foot 92 challenge.
The eight schools include six primaries, Carleton Park Junior & Infant School, De Lacy Primary School, Halfpenny Lane Junior, Infant & Nursery School, Larks Hill Junior & Infant School, Orchard Head Junior, Infant & Nursery School, The Rookeries Carleton Junior, Infant & Nursery School and two secondaries, Carleton High School and The King’s School.
The students at each school have loved watching their teachers endure the ice cold water, cheering them on as they took on the challenge. The ice foot 92 challenge was set up by former professional footballer Len Johnrose who has been working hard to raise awareness of the MND for which there is no cure. The fundraising total is still climbing but already Pontefract Academies Trust have raised over £1,300 for this worthy charity.
Chief Executive Officer of Pontefract Academies Trust, Julian Appleyard OBE said: “It is incredible that all eight of our schools have been able to come together to raise money for this fantastic charity. Rugby league legend Rob Burrow has raised an incredible amount of awareness and funds for MNDA and we want to show our support to him and his family. It’s also been a great opportunity to show the students within our Trust that although an incredibly serious topic, fun can still be created from it.”
MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work.
