Performing Arts Teacher Inspires Students In Legally Blonde Performance

Grace Rafton, Performing Arts teacher at Carleton High School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, performed as part of the ensemble and dance team in the latest performance of Legally Blonde at Theatre Royal, Wakefield. Grace who is part of Diva Productions and Wakefield West Riding Theatre Company has been performing since the age of three and her love and passion for performing arts grew from there. Burrow Family Scoop Up Awards At Yorkshire Choice Awards

10-year-old Macy, 7-year-old Maya, and 3-year-old Jackson Burrow were amazed and excited when they won the Young Achiever Award at the Yorkshire Choice Awards held at Elland Road. The three children, who all attend Orchard Head Junior, Infant & Nursery School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, are used to fancy award ceremonies and being in the limelight as their Dad, Rob Burrow is an English former professional rugby league footballer, who spent 16 years playing for the Leeds Rhinos in the Super League, before retiring in 2017. Carleton High School Student Dances Her Way to the Main Stage

Francesca Scholes, a Year 7 student at Carleton High School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, has landed a role in The Nothern Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker at Leeds Grand this winter. The production is on from the 20th November to 7th January. Francesca started dancing at the age of 14 months old. She learned to dance at the same time as she started to walk. The passion has been passed down from her Mum, who used to be a freestyle dancer. Young Fundraisers Receive Special Mayor Award

Pupils from 6 primary schools in Pontefract, all part of Pontefract Academies Trust, were invited to a special awards ceremony at the Mayor’s office on Thursday to celebrate the incredible fundraising effort they and other schools in the local area contributed to. Organised by The Prince of Wales Hospice, the ceremony celebrated £61,000 being raised from one event alone – a Reindeer Run. In December, children were encouraged to run, dance, skip or hop and get sponsored for doing so. Meet The Next Generation Of Local Entrepreneurs

Students from Pontefract Academies Trust secondary schools, The King’s School, and Carleton High School competed in The Prince of Wales Hospice ‘Dragon’s Den meets The Apprentice’ challenge. Taking inspiration from the BBC’s popular TV shows, The Prince of Wales Hospice created their own exciting challenge for local schools to showcase the next generation of billionaires in the making. Students teamed up, developed a business idea, and pitched their products to a panel of Dragons set up by managers of high-profile local organisations. Local Children Involved In Remembrance Day In Pontefract

Both of our secondary schools were delighted to welcome Mr Brian Berry MA from the Ackworth and Pontefract branch of The Royal British Legion along with other ex-veterans. They gave an inspirational presentation about their stories of serving in the war. They also spoke about the significance of the poppy. Inspirational Student Is Recognised By Princess Anne

Ryan Myhill, an 11-year-old at Carleton High School, was chosen to meet Princess Anne in London due to being recognised as a young carer. Ryan has been a carer for around 4 years now for his younger sister who has ADHD and learning difficulties. Ryan enjoys helping his sister with her homework, especially maths as that’s one of his favourite subjects in school. Children In Need 2021

Every year, all eight of our schools find fun ways to raise money for Children in Need. Whether it’s baking, running races, raffles and much more. The Rookeries Junior, Infant & Nursery School featured on Look North and the Children In Need programme as they attempted to break the world record of how many wet sponges can you throw at someone in 30 seconds! A big thank you to Headteacher at The Rookeries, Mr Grogan for nominating himself to have the sponges thrown at! The pupils loved it. Overall our schools raised a staggering £4,000. Pontefract Academies Trust has announced that for this academic year their eight schools as well as the central office, will be fundraising for The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract. Throughout the coming year, the Trust hope to help children and staff gain an understanding as to what the charity stands for, the impact of fundraising and general awareness around the issues the charity combats as well as raising as much money as they can.
