Ryan Myhill, an 11-year-old at Carleton High School, was chosen to meet Princess Anne in London due to being recognised as a young carer. Ryan has been a carer for around 4 years now for his younger sister who has ADHD and learning difficulties. Ryan enjoys helping his sister with her homework, especially maths as that’s one of his favourite subjects in school. Children In Need 2021

Every year, all eight of our schools find fun ways to raise money for Children in Need. Whether it’s baking, running races, raffles and much more. The Rookeries Junior, Infant & Nursery School featured on Look North and the Children In Need programme as they attempted to break the world record of how many wet sponges can you throw at someone in 30 seconds! Pontefract Academies Trust has announced that for this academic year their eight schools as well as the central office, will be fundraising for The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract. All eight schools who are part of Pontefract Academies Trust have received the totals that they have collectively raised for The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract and Motor Neurone Disease Association during the 2020-2021 academic year. £10,252.10 had been raised for The Prince of Wales Hospice and £9,160.65 for Motor Neurone Disease. The King’s School and Carleton High School, both members of Pontefract Academies Trust, are celebrating GCSE success today. Together the 3,900 pupils and over 300 staff members of Pontefract Academies Trust collected 315kg of food which has been donated to Pontefract Food Bank. The amount collected is enough to create 21 food packages for those in need within the local community. Teachers, pupils and parents didn’t let lockdown stop them from celebrating this year’s World Book Day as they enjoyed an action packed agenda to enjoy their love of storytelling and reading. Pontefract Academies Trust raise £7,442 for Local Hospice

Pontefract Academies Trust has raised over £7,442 for The Prince of Wales Hospice in just four months. All eight schools have been working incredibly hard over the past four months to raise much needed funds for the hospice as they know how difficult it’s been for charities during the pandemic. Fundraising activities so far have included non-uniform days, Reindeer Runs, collecting money in the hospices star jars and much more.
