Carleton High School is proud to present its wealth of talented teachers. Our students benefit from passionate, experienced and highly skilled practitioners who support our incredible students to grow into the best version of themselves they can be! Our teachers live and breath the CHS vision to deliver ‘ a first class education to all students so that they make outstanding progress and get the chances in life they deserve’ and do ‘whatever it takes’ to make this vision a reality.

Answer from our deputy Headteacher: As an ex-student myself I can say it's quite a lot! The most obvious are the facilities, such as the 13 million pound building that our live open evening was filmed from. We forget how lucky we are sometimes but it makes such a difference to students and how they feel about their learning. To perform in our theatre and on the stage gives a real sense of achievement and pride in their learning from being in such outstanding professional facilities. The same for the PE facilities - again, that professional and modern environment helps students feel successful, and do their best. It's the same around the different blocks - all classrooms are light, bright, and modern, and students really feel valued in their education, and that they can do their best.
Another difference is the lessons themselves. I would love to be a student nowadays. The lessons and the curriculum, is interesting, active, challenging when it needs to be; students really do enjoy their days at school.
Results at Carleton High School are Outstanding. They are well above national average. Over 70% of our students get more than a grade 4 in maths and english and over 1/3 of our students get a grade 8/9 in at least 1 of their GCSEs. Those facts put us as one of the highest performing schools in the Wakefield Authority. The results for a number of our departments are in the top 10% of schools nationally. As you can imagine, we are extremely proud of the results here at Carlton High School, and we can absolutely assure you that your child will receive a first class education.
PE is fantastic, we have excellent facilities which enable us to deliver a really broad curriculum, so you will get the opportunity to take part in sports you probably haven't experienced before. We have football and rugby for both girls and boys, there are rounders pitches, a cricket pitch, an athletics track and long jump pit for athletics. We also have 6 outdoor tennis courts and 4 outdoor netball courts. Then inside we have a full size sports hall where we do basketball and badminton, a gymnasium where we do gymnastics and you will experiences activities like vaulting and trampolining. We even have 2 full size trampolines! We have a dance studio and also a fitness gym with state of the art equipment such as treadmills, cross trainers, rowers and weights. We have recently formed a link with Cross-Fit International, so are also starting to deliver Cross-Fit in our PE lessons. We have lots of sports teams for you to join, who play in both local and national competitions, so there is definitely something for everyone.
At Carleton High School we provide an extensive package of transition. This involves three transition days in the summer term. Meetings with our assistant Headteacher and Year 6 teachers/ SENCOs across all the primary schools. There are also additional meetings with SEND parents. There is lots of useful information on the website and the first day back in September we allocate solely to Year 7 to allow them to settle in to their new surroundings.
We believe that the role of the form teacher is one of the most important parts of a teachers job. The form teacher will make sure your child is happy, settled and thrives. Your form teacher will meet your child every day and be that first point of contact. The form teacher will provide a safe environment to build up a positive relationship with your child and your child with their peers. Lastly your form teacher will encourage your child to be more sociable, confident, attend extra curricular clubs and also take advantage of some of the outstanding opportunities available at Carleton High School.

Co-curricular Programme
Our co-curricular programme helps provide students with a well rounded, culturally rich education through activities and experiences that enhance their learning
Co-curricular gives our students opportunities to try new and varied activities that may not strictly fit into the curriculum, but that develop character, resilience and motivation, and encourage them to pursue wider goals. It helps to teach life skills that benefit students beyond the classroom, and can develop an appreciation for cultural and community issues, teamwork and social responsibility.

We are Active Citizens
Active citizens do many things to improve the lives of others. They contribute to social justice in their community by taking action on issues in order to make a difference. They question the way things are done.
Carleton High School provides authentic opportunities for students to become active citizens. The many fundraising opportunities that are available are just one of the ways are students help contribute to society and develop their leadership skills.

Welcome to Performing Arts
At Carleton, we believe in the power of performing arts to develop confidence and self esteem in young people and are proud of the exceptional facilities we have to offer our students. Throughout the year our performing arts department put on fantastic performances that give the professionals a run for their money!
As a parent, if you have witnessed your child involved in a musical or dramatic production, you will know how much good it does for their confidence. We therefore offer an array of opportunities for students to take part in performing arts. Whether it's acting, singing, dancing or helping out backstage, what matters is being part of a team and extending their experiences beyond the classroom.
Welcome to our PE Department
At Carleton High School, we have incredible facilities to ensure your children can get involved in a wide range of sporting activities. Students may wish to join to stay fit and have fun, or they may choose to represent the school and play competitively in a wide range of teams such as rugby, football and netball.
Our indoor facilities are matched by our outdoor provision. We have several football and rugby pitches and outdoor tennis courts to complement our indoor gym, sports hall and fitness suite. We strive to offer an inclusive and dynamic co-curricular sporting programme for all Carleton High School students, whatever their interests and abilities.

Incredible Facilities
Library
The Library is the place where our students can find the resources they need to support their academic study and is also a quiet environment where they may enjoy recreational reading. Our librarian is always on hand to offer advice, help students find the books they need and issue them for home study. The Library also houses a computer suite with facilities for accessing the internet, printing and photocopying and is used by students for both project work and daily homework. It remains open after school until 4.00pm
Sports Facilities
Our outstanding sporting facilities include netball and tennis courts and provision for rounders and athletics. The gym and sports hall house activities such as gymnastics, trampolining, basketball, hockey and dance. Whilst rugby and football players benefit from the extensive fields within the school grounds. Our state of the art gym is regularly used in PE to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle.
Performing Arts Facilities
Our music department enjoys superb facilities including four practice rooms, a recording studio and two well-resourced teaching classroom. This includes a whole host of musical instruments such as guitars, ukuleles, pianos, drum kits, keyboards, the list goes on!
The performing arts Theatre rivals that of the West Yorkshire Playhouse. It provides an excellent multi-functional and flexible performance space for theatrical productions and musical events, with seating for up to 500 guests. Theatrical and musical productions are enhanced by excellent sound equipment and professional lighting facilities, operated from a purpose built state of the art technical studio.
Our dance studio is fully mirrored so our budding dancers can fully immerse themselves in their craft.
Science and Technology
Carleton has an amazing Science block consisting of seven fully equipped laboratories for our students to get stuck into some incredible experiments and ignite their inner scientist.
Our Art and Technology block inspires creativity and has incredible workshops with the machinery to make ideas come to life. Our students are encouraged and supported to learn valuable new skills and let their creativity shine.
